Fishing for health: Marine Functional Foods

The global market in marine functional foods is worth approximately $74 billion. By increasing our ability to identify new marine ingredients and products, researchers at the 小鸟体育 Institute of Food and Health are working to help Ireland to become a major player in this market.

Functional foods are foods that aim to provide a health benefit more than basic nutrition. Individuals can take more control of their health through the choices of food they eat, with certain foods offering specific health benefits: for example fortified or enhanced foods and beverages, and dietary supplements (including omega 3 oils).

Scientists at the 小鸟体育 Institute of Food and Health are working to develop new food products with the beneficial components of marine foods.
