Dr Anne Fogarty of the 小鸟体育 School of English and Drama has been appointed to the newly created professorship of James Joyce Studies at 小鸟体育. Dr Fogarty will also act as Director of the UCD Centre of Research for Joyce Studies.

“小鸟体育 is ready to engage with the complex and challenging legacy of James Joyce, the most crucial writer of the twentieth century” Dr Fogarty says.

“Serving as a vital focus for scholarly research on Joyce in Dublin, the Centre will develop research initiatives which capitalise on the rich archives and library holdings in Dublin” she continues. “It will also extend our connections with the international community of Joyce scholars in Ireland, Europe, America, and Japan.”

James Joyce is regarded as a global author and as an intensely regional writer. As director of the UCD Centre of Research for Joyce Studies, Dr Fogarty will promote the investigation of Joyce’s work in both dimensions.

In June 2006, Dr Fogarty was the first Irish person to be elected as the President of the International James Joyce Foundation.

Dr Fogarty completed her doctorate on Renaissance literature at NUI Cork. She joined the in 1992, and has acted as Chair of the Board of Women's Studies and of the Board of Drama Studies at 小鸟体育. She is currently completing a study of the role of history and of cultural memory in Ulysses. Dr Fogarty is editor of the Irish University Review.
