
鈧760 million Raised by Nova小鸟体育 Supported Companies over the Last 15 years
- Companies currently employ over 1,040 staff and have an annual turnover in excess of 鈧113 million
University College Dublin (小鸟体育) today announced the results of its latest survey of companies supported through Nova小鸟体育, the University鈥檚 Centre for New Ventures and Entrepreneurs, since it opened 15 years ago.
小鸟体育 has supported over 360 companies and early-stage ventures through the services and supports provided by Nova小鸟体育. The combined annual turnover of the companies surveyed amounted to over 鈧113 million in 2018 and collectively they currently employ over 1,040 people directly, more than 950 of whom are based in Ireland.
The supported companies which operate in sectors including; AgTech, CleanTech, FinTech, ICT, MedTech and Life Sciences, have raised over 鈧760 million in equity funding.
At Nova小鸟体育 new high-tech and knowledge-intensive start-up companies are nurtured and supported to enable them to develop, scale and create jobs. Early-stage ventures have additionally completed programmes run by Nova小鸟体育, such as the 小鸟体育 VentureLaunch Accelerator Programme (and its predecessor the Campus Company Development Programme) and the 小鸟体育 Start-Up Stars Programme.
Julie Sinnamon, CEO, Enterprise Ireland, said 鈥淪tart-ups are the life blood of the Irish economy and a key role for Enterprise Ireland is to support the start-up ecosystem. Enterprise Ireland has supported Nova小鸟体育 over the last 15 years and I would like to congratulate the centre and the companies on their success.鈥
小鸟体育鈥檚 technology transfer team, which is responsible for the commercialisation of the intellectual property emerging from 小鸟体育鈥檚 world-class research programmes, is also based at Nova小鸟体育.
Since 2003, 45 new 小鸟体育 spin-out companies have been incorporated; over 825 inventions have been disclosed by 小鸟体育 researchers; over 280 priority patent applications have been filed and more than 200 licensing deals have been concluded with a range of indigenous and international businesses such as, Amdocs, Amryt and Glanbia.
Six private sector sponsors; AIB, Arthur Cox, Deloitte, Ericsson, Goodbody Stockbrokers and Xilinx contributed to the development of the Nova小鸟体育 facility originally, along with and 小鸟体育. Nova小鸟体育鈥檚 technology transfer team has in addition been supported through Enterprise Ireland鈥檚 Technology Transfer Strengthening Initiative (TTSI) since 2007. TTSI is managed and administered by (KTI).

Last August UCD announced a 鈧6.5 million development project to renovate and extend Nova小鸟体育鈥檚 east courtyard. When completed this Summer Nova小鸟体育鈥檚 capacity to house start-up companies will increase by over 50%.

Using a multiplier of 2 would indicate that Nova小鸟体育 supported companies support approximately 2,100 jobs in total, some 1,040 jobs indirectly in addition to the over 1,040 direct jobs.
